The PME Summer Course in Economics and Sociology by LM2C2 has been an impressive initiative, marked by a high level of interest among young students. The course witnessed an overwhelming number of applications, leading LM2C2 to increase the available spots from 20 to 30 for young people aged between 16 and 18, from various regions of Chile and different communes of Santiago, in their 3rd or 4th year of high school. Following a rigorous selection process, 30 young students were accepted.

Their journey began on Monday, January 8, with an inaugural lecture by Felipe Balmaceda, Director of the Nucleo Milenio LM2C2, who introduced them to the field of economics, teaching them to "think like economists" and understand market dynamics. The day-long session was comprehensive, with students being provided transportation, study materials, breakfast, and a nutritious and delicious lunch.

Throughout the week, the students engaged in comprehensive sessions led by esteemed professors and researchers from LM2C2, gaining valuable insights into R programming, labor mismatch, inequality, and various other critical topics. They had the unique opportunity to attend specialized classes conducted by distinguished guest professors such as Miguel Vargas, the Dean of FEN at Universidad Andres Bello. Furthermore, they had the privilege to learn from José Luis Contreras, Senior Economist at the National Commission for Evaluation and Productivity, who emphasized the significance of creating evidence-based public policy recommendations.

The program was enriched by insightful lectures and discussions facilitated by LM2C2 academics, highlighted by an engaging and interactive workshop on January 9. They also had the chance to delve into the history of economics through a thought-provoking lecture by academic Felipe Abbott. The week culminated with assessments and the presentation of certificates, marking the successful completion of the course.
