Andrea Canales and Paola Bordón are studying gender differences in graduation/dropout from STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) university courses. The hypothesis being tested is whether women drop out more than men in these areas or have fewer chances of finishing a STEM degree (the leaky pipeline). The hypothesis indicates that women are falling out of the STEM pipeline because they do not have the same academic preparation as men. The preliminary results of this research suggest no gender differences in dropout and graduation. Academic preparation is a relevant topic for both men and women.
