Millennium Nucleus LM²C² Announces Call for Papers 2024 for Workshop: “Causes and Consequences of Labor Market Mismatch”

  • The Millennium Nucleus LMC² Research Center announces the call for papers for the upcoming workshop: “Causes and Consequences of Labor Market Mismatch” to be held on December 9-10, 2024, in Santiago, Chile.

    Monday, June 22, 2024.The main objective of this workshop, which will bring together prominent international economists and sociologists, is to contribute through analysis and debate, generating  proposals to address current labor market challenges and their economic and social repercussions.

    Among the topics to be discussed are skill mismatches and their impact on employment, wages, and professional development.

    Studies will analyze the gap between the skills required by the labor market and those available in the workforce and the impact of these mismatches on professional growth and wage evolution. Additionally, the role of education and training in reducing labor mismatches will be explored  through research on the effectiveness of educational programs and case studies of successful initiatives.

    Other topics include the impact of technological change and automation on labor demand and the nature of work, analyses of how new technologies transform the labor market, and how workers and employers adapt to these changes.

    The network effects on employment opportunities  wages, and other labor market outcomes will also be discussed, as well as the intersectionality of gender, race, and class networks in work experiences and employment opportunities.

    Furthermore, policy responses to labor market mismatches will be examined by evaluating successful public policies and government strategies in different contexts and regions.

    The keynote speakers for this event will be Dr. Luca Flabbi, Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Dr. Xi Song, Associate Professor of Sociology and Demography at the University of Pennsylvania. Both speakers will share their perspectives in plenary sessions, providing a conceptual framework for the conference and stimulating academic debate among participants.

    Finally, it is worth noting that the workshop, "Causes and Consequences of Labor Market Mismatch," will feature the participation of academics Kate Weisshaar and Koji Chavez as special guests. Throughout their distinguished careers, they have focused on areas related to hiring discrimination and labor market dynamics, among other topics.

    The Millennium Nucleus LM²C² invites all researchers and academics  to submit their papers and join this academic  forum to contribute to generating innovative proposals  to address the challenges of the contemporary labor market.
