11 Sep Panel Discussion: "Migration and Its Impact on Labor Market Disruption and Inequalities"
The Milenio LM2C2 and Migra research groups came together to hold a panel discussion on Thursday, September 7th, regarding Chile's migration phenomenon and its primary challenges and issues, focusing on employment and opportunities.
From LM2C2, Mauricio Bucca, a Catholic University sociologist, discussed two migration studies: one on the labor mobility of second-generation migrants and another on mixed marriages. Both studies were based on European data since Chile currently lacks the data to conduct them.
The Migra research group, which studies migration as a whole, featured the participation of Patricio Domínguez, its alternate director, who provided context on the current migration situation in Chile, Latin America, and other countries such as Canada and Sweden. He also discussed the reasons behind migration, including new employment opportunities, and emphasized how the perception of this phenomenon has changed in Chile, which is now often associated with negative aspects.
The complete panel discussion can be found here.
