The XII edition of the Chilean Sociology Congress, organized by Diego Portales University (UDP) and Alberto Hurtado University (UAH), took place over three days from May 2nd to 4th. Esteemed national and international experts convened to delve into the challenges facing the discipline, all under the overarching theme of "Social Change and Diversity: The Challenges of a New Coexistence."
During this event, researchers from the Causes and Consequences LM2C2 Millennium Nucleus, Andrea Canales and Mauricio Bucca, presented their respective works : "The positional value of education in the Americas: dynamics of inequality in labor market returns under educational expansion, 1990-2019" by Francisco Cerón & Andrea Canales, and "Class-Based Name Giving Patterns in 20th Century Chile: dynamics of imitation and differentiation" by Mauricio Bucca, Mario Molina, Luca Pesando & Roberto Cantillán.
The primary aim of the congress was to foster dialogue and critical thinking from a sociological standpoint concerning the intricate transformations, challenges, and societal demands of today. Furthermore, it sought to analyze the role and significance of sociology amidst these dynamic processes.
It's noteworthy that the LM2C2Millennium Nucleus has centered its research efforts on the mismatch prevalent in the Chilean labor market, along with its underlying causes and repercussions. This interdisciplinary research center pioneers a fresh approach, blending the expertise of economists and sociologists to provide innovative insights into this critical issue.
